Finding the WMA: Perhaps the best spot from which to find each of the five WMA units Hickory Mound, Spring Creek, Tide Swamp, Jena, and Snipe Island is Perry (30آ° 6' 52" N, 83آ° 34' 57" W) in Taylor County. Otherwise, your outfitter for the paddling trail will direct you to a meeting location.

About the WMA: Big Bend Wildlife Management Area consists of five units. From a paddle and hence a camper point of view, all are the same and yet all are slightly different. On Jena, you can drive, bike, or horseback ride up and down ancient sand dunes to a panoramic view of exposed limestone, salt marsh, and the Gulf. At Hagen Cove on Tide Swamp, you can scallop, gig flounder at night, picnic, and barbeque. On Spring Creek and at Tide Swamp, you'll find the only remaining coastal scrub in the Big Bend, and at the Hickory Mound Impoundment, you can crab, hunt waterfowl in season, and observe a diverse abundance of birds year-round.
